JOB OVERVIEW 
The Bilingual Media Manager is our point of contact for all things media. You keep up with and get ahead of the ever-changing media landscape. Working closely with our Account Services team, you implement successful campaigns by strategizing on media plans, negotiating media buys, and having a roster of vendors who trust you and our company. Rather than finding comfort in only ticking off tasks, you want to shake things up for the better and lay down the foundation for a strong media team. RESPONSIBILITIES
Team & People Management
  • Management, leadership, and overall accountability for a team of 2-3 direct reports at various levels of experience and responsibility
  • Management of and reporting on department scorecards, and rectifying situations where metrics are constantly lagging behind goals
  • Build strong working relationships within and across functional teams
  • Conduct bi-weekly 1:1’s with direct reports and coaching / providing direct feedback to encourage professional growth, while also acting as emotional support when required
  • Conduct quarterly performance reviews with all direct reports providing clear feedback and action steps for incremental improvement, based on the People Analyzer and GWC frameworks
  • Summarize key findings, feedback, and action plans regarding individuals on the team for the Director of Campaign Operations
  • Exercising sound judgment in conflict resolution and escalating issues appropriately

Process Management & Administration
  • Maintain and organize media data and inventory including media channels, media kits, discounts, mark-ups, vendor notes, and ad specifications (sizes, file types, creative deadlines etc.)
  • Keep our internal databases and teams up to date on new or adjusted media opportunities
  • Lead the development of templates for media research, planning, execution, and reporting
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage the implementation of new software / tools to enhance internal media processes and planning capabilities
  • Flag process issues within and across functional teams, and collaboratively identifying and implementing solutions alongside leadership and other team managers
  • Establish reasonable turnaround times for various departmental deliverables and using judgment to prioritize / de-prioritize assignments when necessary
  • Maintain clear records of channel spends, discounts, revenue, and overall profitability of the department

Media Research, Planning & Strategy
  • Monitor and stay on top of media trends for all outlets including digital direct, print, broadcast, OOH, and bilingual social media (including RED and WeChat) 
  • Identify new media opportunities, partnerships, and technologies to grow our current services
  • Desktop research, as well as working with industry partners to conduct ad hoc media and/or audience (demographic and psychographic) research
  • Collaborate directly with key clients and Account Managers to create media plans 
  • Define media scope, budgets, and establish timelines/deadlines
  • Conduct client research, analyze target audience, media strategy, and identify appropriate media placement and advertising opportunities
  • Prepare and format client-facing media plans (work with external designers as needed)
  • Manage and assign all media deliverables, vendor communications, submission of booking orders, and other technical media tasks as required (e.g. ad trafficking)
  • Prepare and create client-facing media research and planning deliverables for proposals, pitch decks, and reports
  • Lead presentation of media deliverables to key clients and other stakeholders during campaign and regular meetings
  • Perform quality checks of media campaign deliverables for the team as required

Media Execution & Reporting
  • Manage the team in executing against media buys and updating administrative tracking sheets related to media bookings, PO’s, contracts, payments, etc.
  • Design and manage the process for extracting and summarizing performance data from third-party platforms and media vendors
  • Ensure accurate visualizations of media performance data via Looker Studio (formerly Google Data Studio) and spearheading updates to data collection templates
  • Compile client-facing media reports highlighting quantitative results, qualitative analyses, and overall campaign takeaways for key clients
  • Continuously assess the success of media advertising plans and campaigns based on industry benchmarks, and establishing those benchmarks where necessary

Vendor Management
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with both English and ethnic vendors through strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Attend regular vendor meetings in the BC lower mainland area
  • Provide guidance for the team in prioritizing the development of media vendors, based on the agency’s business priorities
  • Communicate and coordinate with vendors for all media-related actions (from negotiating pricing to booking placements, and troubleshooting issues)
  • Drive negotiations for media packages, costs, and booking and creative submission deadlines for both English and Chinese media buys (social, digital direct, print, broadcast, OOH, etc) and secure desired placements in a timely manner
  • Responsible for managing vendor contracts and yearly, or periodic, renewals
  • Liaise with Finance to ensure that all media invoices, discrepancies, and billings are inputted, cleared, and issued in a timely fashion
  • Work with vendors to brainstorm and execute innovative placements or formats

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
As a highly-analytical media planner, in-depth knowledge of market research and target audiences is essential. Your confidence in forming strong relationships and partnerships comes from your experience dealing with different external stakeholders. To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator and decision-maker who can work effectively within a team environment. 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or relevant field
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working in media or similar role — either in-house or with an agency
  • Media experience from BC lower mainland 
  • Be able to meet vendors regularly in BC lower mainland
  • Demonstrable experience with building effective media campaigns 
  • Advance knowledge of media specific terminology and digital metrics, corresponding data, and their implication on planning efforts
  • Excellent knowledge of analytics tools and campaign evaluation metrics

Technical Skills
  • Digital marketing knowledge (Google Ads, Facebook and Instagram, Programmatic Ads)
  • Intermediate spreadsheet skills in Excel and/or Google Sheets for reporting, data visualization and ad-hoc analysis
  • Excellent writing skills
  • English and Chinese fluency is required. Mandarin is preferred.
  • Excellent email etiquette 
  • Comfortable with remote work tools and ability to learn systems quickly (ClickUp, Notion, Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, etc.)

Compensation

$65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
