JOB OVERVIEW
The Senior Media Strategist implements successful campaigns by strategizing on media plans, negotiating media buys, and having a roster of vendors who trust you and our company. The successful candidate has extensive experience with both traditional media (bus wrap, print, TV, radio, etc.) and digital media (programmatic, Google, Facebook, Instagram, etc.). 


RESPONSIBILITIES
Media Research & Strategy
  • Monitor and stay on top of media trends for all outlets including digital direct, print, broadcast, OOH, and bilingual social media (including RED and WeChat) 
  • Identify new media opportunities, partnerships, and technologies to grow our current services
  • Desktop research, as well as working with industry partners to conduct media and audience (demographic and psychographic) research 
  • Collaborate with the Account, Content, Digital team to explore and identify different ways to integrate media into marketing strategies in North-America and overseas
  • Create and present client facing deliverables pertaining to paid growth strategy for proposals, pitch decks, and reports

Media Planning and Buying
  • Collaborate directly with key clients and Account Managers to create media plans 
  • Define media scope, budgets, and establish timelines/deadlines
  • Conduct client research, analyze target audience, media strategy, and identify appropriate media placement and advertising opportunities
  • Work with external vendors to obtain media proposals whenever necessary
  • Prepare and present client-facing media plans, strategy notes, and other support deliverables (ie: visuals)
  • Lead presentation of media deliverables to key clients and other stakeholders during initial sales and regular meetings
  • Coordinate with external vendors to negotiate timelines, costs, and secure desired media placements in a timely manner
  • Issue POs for all client and company media placements

Media Reporting
  • Compile client-facing media reports highlighting quantitative results, qualitative analyses, and overall campaign takeaways for key clients
  • Continuously assess the success of media advertising plans and campaigns based on industry benchmarks, and establishing those benchmarks where necessary

Vendor Management
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with both English and Ethnic vendors through strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Develop and continue to grow our roster of influencers and KOLs
  • Communicate and coordinate with vendors for all media-related actions (from negotiating pricing to booking placements, and troubleshooting issues) such as:
  • Submission Deadlines
  • Creative Specs
  • Cancellation Policies
  • Pushing/Cancellation of placements
  • Contracts
  • Ensure that all media invoices, discrepancies, and billings are inputted, cleared, and issued in a timely fashion
  • With guidance from the department head, negotiate vendor costs, contracts, and packages for yearly, or periodic renewals
  • Liaise with Finance to ensure that all media invoices, discrepancies, and billings are inputted, cleared, and issued in a timely fashion 
  • Work with vendors to brainstorm and execute innovative placements or formats
  • Stay up to date with latest offerings, vendor promotions, and pricing updates

Process and Administration
  • Maintain and organize media inventory including media kits, pricing, vendor notes, and ad-specifications (sizes, file types, creative deadlines etc.)
  • Manage and update media admin tracking sheets related to bookings, POs, contracts, payments, etc.
  • Optimize and continuously improve upon existing processes to improve efficiency

Chinese Marketing
  • Register and renew WeChat and RED official accounts for clients
  • Maintain an expert knowledge of Chinese marketing platforms including WeChat and RED
  • Develop paid growth strategies and identify partnership opportunities 

Industry Knowledge
  • Develop a firm understanding of the client's industry, brand, marketing strategy, and challenges.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of Periphery's services and processes
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies within the Chinese market, as well as digital and traditional paid media opportunities in North America
  • Maintain a high level of understanding in digital marketing platforms such as Google Display Network, Facebook, Instagram, Programmatic, WeChat etc.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and participating in professional organizations

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is a highly coachable individual who displays significant intellectual curiosity, a history of professional accountability, and a team-first mentality. You also encompass the following knowledge and capabilities:

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or relevant field
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in media or similar role — either in-house or with an agency
  • Media experience in Canada
  • Demonstrable experience with building effective media campaigns 
  • Advance knowledge of media specific terminology and digital metrics, corresponding data, and their implication on planning efforts
  • Excellent knowledge of analytics tools and campaign evaluation metrics
  • Must be legally entitled in Canada. Ideally, the candidate is located in Greater Vancouver Area, but also open to considering candidates in the Greater Toronto Area

Technical Skills
  • Intermediate spreadsheet skills in Excel and/or Google Sheets for reporting, data visualization and ad-hoc analysis
  • Digital marketing knowledge (Google Ads, Facebook and Instagram, Programmatic Ads)
  • English and Chinese fluency is required. Mandarin is preferred.
  • Excellent email etiquette 
  • Comfortable with remote work tools and ability to learn systems quickly (ClickUp, Notion, Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, etc.)

Compensation

$55,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
